Tuxera TCP/IP Stack award submission for Embedded Solution Product of the Year:
Precision instrumentation and measurement devices have evolved from standalone and isolated systems into real-time, connected embedded platforms that depend on secure and reliable data communication. Tuxera TCP/IP Stack is built specifically to address these challenges, giving instrumentation manufacturers a secure and high-performance networking foundation for their embedded systems.
For years, Tuxera has enabled data communications in scientific equipment environments where security, integrity, and performance are fundamental for accurate, reliable results. Where other embedded networking options often force manufacturers to choose between reliability, performance, security, and cost, Tuxera TCP/IP Stack delivers the optimal balance of these requirements into one commercially supported solution built for the long term. Our latest customer success story demonstrates the real-world impact of Tuxera’s stack: Sophion Bioscience selected Tuxera TCP/IP because of the software robustness and ability to support stable, high-integrity internal data communication in their Automated Patch Clamp systems. This integration enables Sophion’s systems to run 100+ experiments in parallel, replacing the limitations of traditional manual patch clamp methods that typically handle one experiment at a time. The success story is publicly accessible here:

Sophion Bioscience is one of the leading manufacturers of automated patch clamp devices, used in pharmaceutical drug discovery. Sophion’s QPatch family performs ion channel measurements, capturing extremely small electrical currents from biological cells. These measurements help inform assessments of drug efficacy, toxicity and patient safety, making data quality essential. To automate this process at scale, Sophion’s systems require continuous, high-frequency bidirectional communication between multiple amplifier channels and a connected host PC. Control commands and electrophysiology data must move reliably and predictably, failure to do so will compromise the measurements and results. After evaluating alternatives, Sophion selected Tuxera TCP/IP Stack for their QPatch platform because of its modular architecture, clear API design, MISRA compliance, and suitability for industrial and instrumentation applications. The engineering collaboration was also a key factor, with Sophion valuing Tuxera’s responsiveness and technical clarity from evaluation through to production integration. Sophion specifically noted that “having a robust and stable internal data communication is key for our instrumentation, and the Tuxera TCP/IP stack has been a great part of that.” The end result is an automated patch clamp platform capable of running many simultaneous experiments with the data integrity required for unattended laboratory operation. This helps accelerate drug discovery workflows, and enables scarce specialist staff to spend less time overseeing repetitive processes and more time on analysis and high-value scientific work.
The Sophion deployment is a real-world example of Tuxera TCP/IP Stack’s core engineering and quality principles:
• Built-in security and connectivity: integrated protocol suite including IPv4/IPv6, TCP, UDP, BSD Sockets, HTTPS, MQTT, SNMP, IPsec, TLS and DTLS, with security algorithms such as AES, ECC, RSA delivered with our encryption library, ensuring encryption is part of the same verified codebase rather than a third-party dependency of unknown quality.
• Designed for real-time performance in embedded systems: zero-copy operation and predictable memory behaviour eliminate the timing jitter and unpredictable latency that disqualify general-purpose stacks from precision instrumentation use. When measurement data must move reliably across multiple parallel channels at high frequency this is a requirement and not a nice-to-have.
• Low resource usage: with an average ROM footprint of approximately 14 kB and RAM requirements as low as 12 kB, the stack runs efficiently on the constrained microcontrollers that embedded instrumentation designs depend on, without requiring hardware upgrades to accommodate the networking layer.
• The highest quality standards: full MISRA-compliant with static analysis, giving manufacturers documented evidence of implementation integrity in addition to just test coverage. A CERT edition of Tuxera TCP/IP Stack with traceability and artifacts is also available for devices that require functional safety.
• Long-term commercial support: compatible with leading RTOS environments and bare metal designs, and portable across a wide range of microcontroller and processor families. The stack is built by a team of embedded software specialists with over 30 years of experience, providing the engineering partnership that instrumentation manufacturers need for their full product lifecycle.
Instrumentation and measurement devices -especially modern instrumentation– demand more from embedded software than other industries. In connected instruments, the embedded networking layer is more than an infrastructure enabler; it directly affects the reliability and integrity of the measurement result. A bug in the communication software is as damaging as a calibration error in the sensor itself.
Tuxera TCP/IP Stack deserves to win the 2026 Embedded Solution award because it solves a critical and growing challenge in modern instrumentation. It enables connected measurement systems to communicate securely and reliably, even under demanding real-time workloads and tight hardware constraints. Its role in Sophion’s automated patch clamp systems is evidence of Tuxera technology delivering measurable value in scientific research. As instrumentation devices become more connected, automated and data-intensive, Tuxera TCP/IP Stack provides the embedded networking foundation needed to build the next generation of secure, reliable and high-integrity measurement systems. We are proud to submit it as the Embedded Solution Product of the Year for 2026.
