Test and Measurement Product of the Year
Company Name: Introspect Technology
Product Name: M7030 DDR/LPDDR Protocol Analyzer
Supporting Statement:
The M7030 DDR/LPDDR Protocol Analyzer is a revolutionary solution for design validation and interoperability testing of next-generation memory interfaces. Using this compact and highly versatile instrument, chip manufacturers, memory makers, and system original equipment manufacturers (OEM) on the forefront of memory interface technology are able to rapidly bring up LPDDR, DDR, GDDR, and HBM devices, and they are able to debug protocol timings and perform long-term data integrity testing. And by offering the highest sampling rate in the industry, the M7030 Protocol Analyzer is ready for next-generation specifications such as LPDDR6 and the highly anticipated DDR6 specification.
The following sections articulate how the product is innovative and how it is making a tremendous impact in the marketplace.
Innovation and Outstanding Performance
Even though memory interface technology is evolving rapidly in the AI era, the test and measurement landscape remains extremely lacking. For example, the major logic analyzer solution that exists in the market today offers a sampling rate of only 10 GS/s, and this is not enough to support even DDR4/LPDDR4 specifications, let alone DDR5/LPDDR5, DDR6/LPDDR6, and HBM memory interfaces. In one statement, the M7030 offers a sampling rate of at least 80 GS/s, and this is 8x higher than the current state of the art in the test and measurement industry!
The M7030 Protocol Analyzer provides instant insight into any live system that contains high-speed memory interfaces. It offers the following key innovations:
‧ Training-Free Operation — It tracks all phases and all voltage levels of a memory bus automatically, thus allowing incredible ease of use for engineers.
‧ Industry-Leading Sampling Rate — With a native sampling rate of 80 GS/s per pin, the M7030 can be used to debug and diagnose the fastest memory links in the world. A high sampling rate increases the confidence in measurements and also helps with future proofing the equipment for years to come.
‧ Active Probing and Integrated-Tip Interposers — With new implementations of LPDDR5 and LPDDR6 memories relying on unterminated mode for some of the signals under test, attaching any logic analyzer to the interface becomes a nightmare for engineers. However, with the M7030’s active probe technology and integrated-tip interposers, this solution is able to probe and debug unterminated signals in a memory interface. This is truly exceptional. A practical example of this capability is demonstrated in Article 1 of the supporting document. Using an integrated-tip interposer and RSH2 active probe, Introspect successfully measured the unterminated CA bus of a commercial LPDDR5x smartphone operating at 8533 MT/s while maintaining excellent signal integrity — something that is extremely difficult to achieve using conventional interposer-based probing techniques.
‧ Handling Clock Stops and Instantaneous Clock Frequency Changes — The M7030’s unique sampling architecture allows it to automatically deal with clock stops, a behavior that is becoming so pervasive in next-generation low-power memory interface implementations. Additionally, the M7030 can also deal with instantaneous clock frequency changes, thus enabling engineers to test realistic system-level operating conditions, as opposed to artificial fixed-frequency “test” modes.
Impact on the Market
Next generation memory interfaces such as LPDDR6, DDR6, and HBM continue to push the boundaries of data transfer speeds. More importantly, these interfaces are deployed in manners that are quite different from previous generation memories. First, the number of memory controller vendors worldwide is growing almost exponentially, and this creates immense interoperability challenges. Additionally, a single CPU or FPGA can now contain tens of separate memory controllers, each needing to be tested and debugged. Finally, the memory interface protocols themselves require advanced training, signal encoding, and sophisticated data communication schemes.
The above engineering and development environment — characterized by major disruption and a large number of players — is where the M7030 DDR/LPDDR Protocol Analyzer comes into the picture. It is a revolutionary instrument that is designed like an oscilloscope in the analog domain and that is delivered as a high channel count, high sampling rate logic and protocol analyzer in the software domain. With its extremely low noise interface, its very easy connectivity to the devices under test, and its award-winning Pinetree™ software, the M7030 Protocol Analyzer has become standard fare at major IP makers, memory makers, and component makers that are playing a crucial role in the deployment and rapid adoption of AI computing infrastructure. The M7030 is currently being used to develop next generation systems based on LPDDR6 as well as next-generation server architectures based on MR-DIMM technology. Engineers on the IP side, the system side, and the memory side all work together and correlate their results that they obtain with the M7030. That is, the M7030 has become an indispensable refereeing tool between engineers, helping them gain insights into their designs, confirm their interpretation of memory specifications, and find subtle interoperability bugs.
One example of the M7030’s capabilities is a successful analysis of a commercial smartphone equipped with LPDDR5x memory, as described in Article 2 of the supporting document. Using the M7030 together with Introspect’s integrated-tip interposer and RSH2 active probe, engineers successfully decoded live memory traffic, observed dynamic power-management behavior, and captured instantaneous clock frequency transitions while the device was operating under normal conditions.
This real-world demonstration illustrates the M7030’s unique ability to provide deep visibility into complex memory interfaces under actual operating conditions — capabilities that are increasingly essential for validating next-generation AI computing platforms and advanced memory technologies.
