Xylem’s YSI HydroSphere cloud visualisation platform combines AI virtual parameters with AI-driven event detection to transform how real-time water quality data is interpreted, validated, and acted upon. Using advanced machine learning, the system derives site specific “virtual parameters”, such as virtual ammonium (NH₄), from measured inputs including temperature, conductivity, turbidity, dissolved oxygen, pH, fluorescence as well as from the NH4 sensor installed.
These virtual AI parameter models are trained on historical and live data, learning the unique behaviour of each monitoring site. This creates a continuously adapting baseline that improves data confidence. When deviations occur between measured and virtual values, operators are alerted to potential issues such as sensor drift, calibration errors, or emerging pollution events, reducing downtime and supporting environmental compliance.
Alongside this, Xylem’s AI event detection engine identifies, clusters, and classifies patterns in data streams. Whether caused by rainfall, industrial discharge, wastewater effluent, or natural variation, events are recognised by their signatures and annotated in real time using expert labelled datasets. This provides immediate, actionable insight.
Together, these capabilities deliver both validation and interpretation, allowing utilities and regulators to distinguish between benign fluctuations and genuine risks.
